Extra Gentle Care for Their Gums and Teeth
Just like adults, kids need regular dental cleanings and exams to maintain strong, healthy teeth. These visits remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria that can lead to decay, gum disease, and bad breath—while also helping their adult teeth come in properly.
Our kid-friendly team makes cleanings easy and effective, reaching areas children can’t clean well on their own. Afterward, we assess their oral health, monitor tooth development, and offer personalized tips to support at-home care.
- Keep baby and adult teeth strong and healthy
- Prevent gum disease and maintain oral health
- Track dental milestones and development
- Build trust and comfort with the dentist
- Encourage kids to take ownership of their oral care
- Establish lifelong healthy habits

What Happens During Children’s Teeth Cleaning?
Before the cleaning begins, we review your child’s dental history and check for any developing concerns. If needed, we may take X-rays or discuss fluoride treatment and sealants for new adult teeth. We always speak with your child in a gentle, kid-friendly way—encouraging questions and helping them feel at ease.
Gum Health
Healthy gums are just as important as healthy teeth. We carefully examine the soft tissues and provide age-appropriate tips for flossing and gum care, especially as adult teeth begin to emerge.
Plaque & Tartar Removal
Plaque can harden into tartar, leading to cavities and gum issues—especially in hard-to-reach spots. Our hygienist gently removes these deposits and may apply fluoride to help protect enamel and prevent decay.
Monitoring Developmental Milestones
We monitor your child’s oral development from the time their baby teeth come in to the transition into a full set of adult teeth—including the emergence of wisdom teeth in their later teens. Through regular exams, X-rays, and visual assessments, we track growth, catch potential issues early, and ensure their smile develops in a healthy, well-aligned way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most children should have a dental cleaning and checkup every 6 months. In some cases, visits every 3 months may be recommended. Try not to wait longer than a year between appointments.
Don’t wait—early intervention is key. Book a dental appointment right away so we can catch and address any issues while they’re still small.
Children often normalize discomfort and may not speak up. Signs of dental pain can include frequently touching their face or mouth, reluctance to let anyone near their teeth, or avoiding certain foods—especially those that are hot, cold, hard, or chewy. You may also notice swelling, discolouration, chewing on only one side of the mouth, or even mood changes. Some children develop a fever if an infection is present.
A typical cleaning appointment for a child lasts between 30 minutes to an hour. If your child is especially anxious or has many questions, the visit may take a bit longer, and we’re always happy to provide extra reassurance and care.
Begin brushing as soon as their first tooth appears using an age-appropriate toothbrush and a small amount of child-safe toothpaste. Encourage brushing twice a day and introduce flossing early. Children greatly benefit from fluoride, which can be applied during dental visits and is also found in some toothpastes and drinking water. Minimise sugary snacks and drinks like juice or pop—especially before bed—and maintain a healthy example by taking good care of your own teeth as well.
After a fluoride treatment, your child should wait at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking. This allows the fluoride to fully absorb and strengthen their enamel before it’s rinsed or brushed away.
